| WELCOME SPEECH OF THE PRESIDENT |
| ON 20TH NOVEMBER, 2010 |
|
Hon’ble Chief Minister, Shri K.Rosaiah Garu, Hon’ble Minister for Panchayat Raj Shri Botsa Satyanarayana Garu , Hon’ble Minister for Rural Development Shri Vatti Vasantha Kumar Garu, Past Office-Bearers of the Sangham , Distinguished guests and members of the Society, Members of the Press and Electronic Media.
On behalf of the Sangham, I consider it a privilege and an honour to welcome all of you to the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of the Sangham.
Today is a Golden letter day for us and heralds a golden future for our community, our State and our Nation. The Sangham has played an important role in providing a Forum and a Platform to the people of the Pan-Kapu community in the twin cities to advance their economic, social and cultural interest and forge bonds of love and friendship as well as fraternity among the members of the community and with other communities. It has successfully networked to build unity among its members .
Shri Rosaiah Garu is a veteran public leader with a long history of public service. He was elected as MLC on four occasions, once as MP and was President of APCC besides being minister for 30 years. He has the rare distinction of presenting the State’s budget for 13 times and consecutively, five times in a row. The presence of our beloved leader Shri K. Rosaiah Garu gives us hope for an even brighter golden future for the sangham, community state and country.
Shri K. Rosaiah Garu has incidentally completed 50 years of glorious public service to the state and country. There can be no better Chief Guest than him for our function. Our CM has kindly consented to unveil the statue of one of our country’s Great Warrior Kings, Just Rulers, and Patrons of education and literature par excellence who took pride in the propagation of the Telugu language and united the hearts and minds of our people. We are beholden to the CM for sparing his valuable time to be amidst us to encourage us by unveiling the statue and distributing the Scholarships. We look forward to his wise counsel and guidance in the future socioeconomic activities of our sangham.
On this Golden Jubilee celebrations day, we pay our homage to all those persons who have contributed to the Sangham but are not amidst us today. We bow in reverence to them and promise to continue their spirit of sacrifice and legacy of selfless service.
We also thank the founder members of the Sangham like Shri T Anantha Babu, Ex Advocate General, Shri V.V.V. Satyanarayana, Ex-Law Secretary , Shri T Venkata Swamy Garu, Ex-Advisor to UNO in Agriculture, Shri V Narayana, well known “A” class contractor and many others who are luckily with us and actively assisting us. We must also make a mention of late Sri A.P. Ranganatha Swamy Garu, Retd. Chief Engineer, who rendered services for the construction of the building where we are gathered here today, along with Sri Y. Prabhakar Rao for his untiring services rendered and still rendering to the Sangham from his younger days to his present age.
The Kapus are one among the large communities of the country. Though known as Telagas, Kapus, Balijas, Ontaris, Gajula Balijas, Munnuru Kapus and Turpu Kapus, in different parts of the state, they belong to the same larger community. They are mostly found concentrated in Andhra Pradesh , Tamilnadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Orissa and Chattisgarh while they are scattered all over India and in many foreign countries notably US, UK, Canada, South Africa, Fiji, Mauritius, West Indies etc. They number nearly 2 crores in Andhra Pradesh and another 2 crores in the other adjacent states. |
|
| INCLUSION OF KAPUS IN B.C. LIST |
| |
The main grievance of the kapu community is the perpetuation of the injustice caused by the Government is deleting the name of the Telaga, Kapu and Balija communities from the backward classes list in the 1960s. We are sure that our Chief Minister would look into the matter sympathetically and see that speedy justice is done and our long standing grievance redressed. A representation will be given in this matter to the Hon’ble Chief Minister for his consideration and decision. We request the support of our Hon’ble Ministers, Sri Botsa Satyanarayana Garu and Sri Vatti Vasantha Kumar Garu in this matter.
We have recently made a submission before the A.P.Backward Classes Commission. |
| |
| EDUCATIONAL EFFORTS |
| |
The Brahmashri Raghupati Venkata Ratnam Naidu Jr College is being run in the premises of the sangham by an educational trust. This has been causing inconvenience to conduct activities of the sangham during the college hours. The Jr. College which is an aided college has been declared the 2nd best Junior College in the twin cities. The college has ambitious plans to provide other courses, particularly, professional and job oriented courses. The College is in need of suitable land on the outskirts of Hyderabad and we would request CM to allot land free of cost or at concessional rates. The Sangham in a modest way, seeks to foster a culture of pursuit of education for economic development. The Sangham therefore grants scholarships to meritorious but poor students besides providing coaching for job related examinations within its limitations. |
| |
| GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIPS |
| |
The Government have now extended educational scholarships to economically backward sections of forward communities. But the amount of scholarships is meager and does not cover the cost of education which is very high, particularly in professional courses. Government are requested to enhance the amount of scholarships and the allocation to meet the ever growing requirement of larger number of students prosecuting higher studies and earmark funds exclusively for Kapu community taking into account the large number of poor and deserving students. |
| |
| SANGHAM’S ACTIVITIES: |
| |
The Sangham operates a Marriage Bureau called “ Parinaya Vedika” which helps eligible and marriageable youth find partners. A Parichaya Vedika is also organized for introduction of prospective brides and bridegrooms in the presence of their parents.
The Sangham conducts several national and local festivals and other events. It also facilitates sports and cultural activities. It recognizes members of the community who have received National or State awards and also felicitates them. It also confers titles of Kula Sreshtra, Kapu Ratna and Kapu Yuva Ratna. Last Year, it held a public reception to felicitate around ‘50’ members of the community who were elected either as MPs, MLAs or MLCs . |
|
| WAY FORWARD |
 |
As part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations, the Sangham proposes to set up a Scholarship Fund to complement and supplement Government Scholarships and their by enable poor and meritorious students to pursue higher education. |
 |
Proposes to set up a Building Fund to provide better infrastructural facilities in its premises by constructing a guest house cum hostel, marriage hall and other ancillary facilities etc. |
 |
Today we are also launching a website through our Hon’ble Minister Shri Botsa Satyanarayana Garu .This will facilitate our community members scattered all over the country and abroad with visible connectivity and ultimately enhances the image of our Sangham. |
 |
Publish a directory of all prominent members of the community in the twin cities to help in networking and mutual help and support. |
 |
To setup a Woman’s Wing & Youth Wing for promoting cultural activities |
 |
To commemorate the occasion, we have brought out a SOUVENIER which will be released by our Hon’ble Minister Shri Vatti Vasantha Kumar Garu. |
|
| |
| REQUEST TO THE HON’BLE CHIEF MINISTER: |
| |
We are confident that the presence of our respected leader like Shri Rosaiah Garu, and Shri Botsa Sathyanarayana Garu and Shri Vatti Vasant Kumar Garu will see the redressal of our grievances in regard to inclusion of the Kapu Community in the B.C. list of the State and Central Government, and Land for our Junior College. We are sure that these problems will be solved quickly. We, on our part, pledge to work for the development of the State and country.
We are very grateful to our guests for being with us and encouraging us in our activities. Their presence today is a real boost for us. We would request them to also participate in the other festivities and have lunch with all of us.
